My Story
Dr. Emma Claudia Perez is Associate Program Director for Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) initiatives and research in the Office of Strategic Educational Partnerships at Texas A&M University (TAMU) where she works on initiatives to promote the success of all students in a research-intensive HSI. She was most recently Postdoctoral research associate and project manager in the Department of Educational Administration and Human Resource Development at TAMU. In that role, she coordinated the design, execution and management of the NSF-funded project “Broadening Participation in STEM: A Qualitative Analysis of Resilience Experiences and Strategies of Latina STEM Majors in Hispanic Serving Institutions.” She received her Ph.D. in behavioral neuroscience from University of Houston (UH) and co-founded the Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) chapter at UH during her time as a graduate student. Her goal is to continue in a career in STEM administration/education focused on understanding and guiding marginalized populations in STEM education/careers, while attempting to chip away at structures that marginalize them in the first place.
